Easily one of the oldest of the crafting disciplines, many smiths are only skilled in the creation of simple items, such as horseshoes, nails, chains and shackles.
Revered smiths, however, are usually called weaponsmiths, able to craft strong tools, and weapons for use by soldiers, guards, hunters, and exarchs. Many weaponsmiths reserve themselves to specific specialties, preferring swords to hammers, or vice versa, but any talented weaponsmith can create any martial weapon with remarkable skill.
The best smiths are able to create weapons which work with gnomish modpoints, allowing the customization and crafting of said weapons, and making them stronger, more agile, or even able to increase their capability. Smiths are very knowledgeable of special materials, and seek out the opportunity to craft with unique alloys and metals.
Talented smiths have been known eschew pay if exchange for the opportunity to work with special alloys, such as dragonplate.
Many smiths with magical tendencies may also dabble in runesmithing, or even in minor leathersmithing, in ways to expand their skills, but most prefer to work with metals to create weapons of both defense, and destruction.
